Back to blogging

Back to blogging

I’ve been feeling bad about not blogging for a while. Each week I’ve been planning to write and then something ‘more important’ will demand my attention and before you know it, another week has passed.

It’s been a good lesson in seeing things from the other side. I’ve always told clients this kind of situation can be avoided with good planning. Whilst that remains true, I’ve seen how easily the opposite can happen, despite the best of intentions.

So, time to get back to practising what I preach!

Fortunately I recently attended an event where Jeremy Knight at Equinet was speaking. He talked passionately about why blogging is so important for your business and it has given me the push I needed to get back to it.

Jeremy made lots of good points, but here’s a few which really stood out for me:

  1. Take a ‘they ask, you answer’ approach - think about what questions your audience would ask of you, then provide the answer. Simples!

  2. Promotion is key - you should spend just as much time promoting your blogs as you do writing them.

  3. Be on topic - you will confuse the search engines if you start writing posts that don’t relate to your services. Don’t do it.

  4. Repurpose blogs - why not turn that blog into a podcast? Or could it be an interesting angle for a media title? What about getting up and giving a talk on the topic?

  5. It’s worth the effort - it is still the best way to grow your web traffic organically!

His session got me thinking about my blog again and has given me the push I needed to get back into writing.

If there are any PR and communications topics you’re interested in, I’d love to hear from you as I’m currently compiling a list of ‘they ask, you answer’ topics to start looking at now….
